Gold Wing Road Riders Association

of June 26th, 2009
To bring this page up to date, we thought it
would be interesting to list our recent memory of Chapter D Directors, so here
is the information I have available:

1997 - 1998 - Mike & Linda Jones
1998 - 2000 - Ruth & Sam Samuell

2006 - 2008 - Art & Carol Herzog
2008 - 2009 - Mike & Nancy Morgan
2009- Current - Doug & Pamelah Carr (Ch D

Please feel free to contact
Doug Carr or
Brenda Connor
with additional information and we'll add it to our list! Maybe we could
get a complete listing for the entire history of Chapter D!
Even though our Chapter is a long time
member of GWRRA, we need new members. All voluntary organizations needs
new blood and new ideas for rides and events. Please feel free to jump in
anytime - there are numerous positions that need filling and we need you!
Rides are still going on, camp outs are
planned, trips are ready to be made! We've spent years and years and years
together so let's continue on!
Chapter D History
Chapter
D originated from a group of motorcycle riders calling themselves “The Piney Woods Riders”. The original charter of
Chapter D of the
Gold Wing Road Riders Association is dated January,
1983. Some of those chartered members are
still active with us today and are C.J. & Pat Sopchak, Doug & Pamelah Carr, and Jack & Janell Johnston.
Some of our long-time members
(even though not charter members) are:
Jasper & JoAnn Hopper, Sam &
Ruth Samuell and Billy Wiginton.
(NOTE: Chapter D’s very first
Chapter Director provided this information
not too long ago when he returned
Chapter D’s original banner!)
Chapter D has a reputation for being a fun and friendly
group. We have been called rebels but
always with a grin. There have been many
rides, evident by the large collection of pictures and other memorabilia in
Chapter D’s scrapbooks.
There are trips recorded from Texas to Canada, from Texas to the East Coast and West Coast. There are pictures of the group in Sturgis,
Daytona, Colorado. The group has
been to Albuquerque to see hot air balloons; they’ve been to Big Ben to
see flowers blooming. There have been
dinners in Dallas, breakfasts cooked by “D-men”, picnics provided by
“D-women”! There have been hayrides,
blues festivals, bowling trips, camp-outs, work days, motorcycle safety
courses, rides, rides and rides!!!! There
are visual reminders in our scrapbook of friends that have come and gone but still remain in our
thoughts as members of Chapter D so come visit with us and take a look, meet some riders and join the
fun!!!
Our current staff is a
mixture of new and long-time members.
Chapter D always welcomes new members and encourages visitors
to become members of GWRRA and of course, Chapter D. Besides our love
for our Goldwings, Valkyries,
and of course, other motorcycles, we share the bond of friendship which becomes
our Chapter D family.
GWRRA’s motto is Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge. Chapter D is certainly that and so much more!!!
Come ride with us and see for
yourself and of course, ride safe!
