Some time ago, one of our most talented and experienced riders was going down the highway at 70 mph when he was momentarily distracted by some activity on the shoulder of the road. When he looked back at the road he saw the vehicle in front of him was braking rapidly to a stop. Using his talented braking techniques, he knew that he could stop in time to avoid a collision, when he suddenly remembered that he was pulling a heavily loaded camping trailer. There was no way he could stop in time, so he wisely swerved onto the grassy shoulder, his trailer jackknifed, he was thrown clear but miraculously escaped serious injury. MORAL: When towing a trailer or carrying a heavy load, be sure to allow extra distance between you and the vehicle or obstacle in front of you.
